More 'View' Moves: 'Rachel Maddow' Exec Producer to Replace Bill Geddie
Veteran MNSBC exec and showrunner Bill Wolff will move over to the revamping ABC panel for its upcoming 18th season.
ABC is filling another key role in its quest to reinvigorate The View. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that longtime Rachel Maddow Show executive producer Bill Wolff is set to replace Bill Geddie as showrunner for the upcoming season.
Wolff, also vp primetime programming at the cable news network, is departing, per an MSNBC spokesperson. His deal with ABC is still being finalized, but he is expected to be on board by September when it returns from hiatus.
It is, of course, a time of big transition over at The View. Barbara Walters' on-air retirement was quickly followed by news of exits for Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy. Initial speculation about who would sit on the revamped panel this fall has thus far only produced one sure thing: the return of former moderator Rosie O'Donnell.
Wolff's addition to The View means that co-creator and longtime showrunner Geddie won't be part of ABC's move to "evolve the show creatively," though ABC had no comment Wednesday. Geddie is a partner in Barwall Productions, Walters' shingle responsible for co-producing The View, so it's not yet clear how involved he'll be in the show moving forward.
Wolff, who spent almost a decade at MSNBC, previously worked for ABC cable sibling ESPN. He produced Around the Horn, also serving as the "disembodied voice," and helped produce SportsCenter and Sunday NFL Countdown.
There are more changes in store for The View. With just Whoopi Goldberg and O'Donnell currently locked for the upcoming season, several more additions are expected over the coming month.
