MTV Announces 'Hip-Hop POV,' New Late-Night Music Talk & Performance Show
The network will debut the new program on April 11 following “Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew,”
MTV today announced the launch of an original weekly late-night music talk and performance show called MTV's Hip-Hop POV, set to debut on Wed., April 11 at midnight.
The new show will be filmed in New York and feature five music industry personalities giving commentary on the day's hip-hop news and music and conducting artist interviews. Each episode of will end with an "intimate" performance.
Announced panelists for MTV's Hip-Hop POV include: NYC's Power 105 radio personality Charlamagne Tha God; journalist and blogger Sowmya Krishnamurthy whose writing has appeared on MTV.com, New York Magazine, the Village Voice and XXL; Bu Thiam, VP of A&R at Def Jam who has worked with Lady Gaga, T-Pain and Rihanna; Amanda Seales, a DJ, standup comic, musician and TV personality; Devi Dev who can be heard on Sirius XM's Sway in the Morning.
“MTV's Hip-Hop P.O.V. is an exciting, new weekly platform that shines the spotlight on the pulse of what's relevant to hip-hop fans," said Amy Doyle, EVP, Music & Talent Strategy in a statement. "With its dominance of the music charts, global impact and cultural influence, we wanted to find a way to harness the passion that MTV viewers have for hip-hop culture and provide its latest and greatest stars and personalities with a brand new stage here at MTV."
The network is billing the night as a "night of music" with the Hip-Hop POV to follow Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew, which has named the latest run its "Season of the Superstars."
The show is Executive Produced by Tiffany Lea Williams and Brian Saracusa.
