MTV Orders Coming-of-Age Comedy Pilot (Exclusive)
MTV is looking to a celebrity to help inspire its latest scripted comedy.
The younger-skewing cable network has given a cast-contingent pilot order to an untitled half-hour from young writers Andy St. Clair and Paul O'Toole, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The untitled entry revolves around 22-year-old Andy, who after he catches his girlfriend cheating, accidentally rear-ends a celebrity. Taking pity on Andy, the celebrity takes it upon himself to teach him how to man up.
St. Clair (whose credits include episodes of Arrested Development and Cougar Town) and O'Toole will co-executive produce the comedy. Odenkirk Provissiero's Marc Provissiero will executive produce the project. The pilot order is contingent on MTV casting a celebrity to star in the comedy.
The celebrity comedy currently stands as the cabler's lone half-hour pilot in the works. On the drama side, MTV is prepping Scream and developing Shannara.
The news comes as MTV recently launched EP Carter Covington's faux lesbian comedy Faking It to decent returns. That series launched with the fourth season of Awkward and comes as the Viacom-owned network will double its original scripted fare with upcoming new additions, including comedy Happyland and dramas Finding Carter and Eye Candy, joining veteran Teen Wolf on the schedule.
