MTV Plots Star-Studded Animated Comedy 'Fancy Bastards' (Exclusive)
MTV is getting back into the animation space.
The Viacom-owned cable network has ordered a pilot presentation for a half-hour animated comedy called Fancy Bastards, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
From Titmouse Inc., Fancy centers on a small town that is shocked to learn its five most awkward outcasts all share the same father, a notorious ginger cad who had an indiscretion-filled night during a whirlwind visit to Vegas nine years ago… and who just happens to be a prince. The misfits turn into royal rock stars overnight, but soon find that the "Fancy Bastard" life is no fairytale.
Price Peterson, Ryan Sandoval and Lily Sparks (Supanatural) penned the script and exec produce with Jason Micallef and Kristen Schaal, alongside Underground's Josh Turner McGuire and Trevor Engelson.

The voice cast includes Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect), Sharon Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne, Natasha Leggero (Neighbors), Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live), John Roberts (Bob's Burgers), Jameeliah Garrett (Supanatural) and Jessica Lowe (Blended).
For MTV, Fancy comes as the cable network was poised to go to series with live-action scripted comedy pilot Ken Jeong Made Me Do It, but the project was scrapped after the Community star's ABC pilot, Dr. Ken — which was in first position — earned a spot on the network's fall schedule. The cabler has no other half-hour comedy pilots in the works at this time. On the scripted roster, MTV will say farewell to Awkward after season five, and has the second season of Faking It in the works.
MTV's animated comedy roster has included hits like Beavis and Butt-Head, Aeon Flux and Daria, among others.
