Mystery Thriller From Jon Turteltaub Lands ABC Family Pilot Pickup
ABC Family is expanding its pilot roster.
The Disney-owned cable network has picked up to pilot Stay, a fractured family drama exec produced by Jon Turteltaub, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Stay is described as a thriller about a recently widowed police detective and his two daughters who get stranded at a foreboding hotel and must unravel its mysteries to escape.

Turteltaub (National Treasure, Sorcerer's Apprentice) will direct the pilot and executive produce alongside Spenser Cohen (Extincition) and his Six Foot Turkey Productions partner, Anna Halberg. Cohen will pen the script.
"Stay is an emotionally powerful story about a fractured family who comes back together under the most unexpected of circumstances,” said ABC Family exec vp programming and development Karey Burke. “Stay is a haunting and surprising ride that we are excited to bring to life."
Stay comes as ABC Family is looking to double its original programming content over the next four years. It joins a roster of pilots that also includes Tim Kring drama Beyond, single-camera entry Tough Cookie from the creator of Awkward, and multicamera comedy Georgeous Morons from the producers of The Office. The network is undergoing a bit of a rebranding under president Tom Ascheim, with a renewed focus on "Becomers" and unscripted fare.
Worth noting: FX also is poised to explore a haunted hotel with the upcoming season of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's horror anthology American Horror Story.
Turtletaub's TV credits also include Common Law, Harper's Island and Jericho, among others. He's repped by WME and Hansen Jacobson; Cohen and Halberg are also with WME.
