'Chuck's' Vik Sahay Wraps on Lester: 'Don't Know If I'll Ever Feel the Same Singing Again'
Vik Sahay, who plays one-half of the musical duo, "Jeffster," and the most conniving of the Buy More employees, Lester Patel, wraps his last day on the set of NBC’s Chuck on Tuesday.
"Chuck has given me a tribe for my first years of living full time in L.A., a foundation of friendships,” Sahay tells The Hollywood Reporter about his time on the series.
“I’m sure I’ll appreciate how critical that was more and more as time goes on,” he continues. “And I love Lester, I feel a deep heartbreak that my journey with him is ending. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel the same singing again."
Lester wasn’t about making anyone else’s life easier – unless it meant there was something to gain from it. And as we’re seeing at this point in the season, he’s currently paying for his sins.
“I think Lester's journey and struggle throughout the seasons has been to find belonging and love,” Sahay says. “Without really knowing what it looks like, though, he has kept reaching for power. His wires are crossed internally. So he tries to undermine, compete, usurp, dominate and seduce people. All the while, taking out his self-loathing on Jeff, the one person who is actually devoted to him. It's tragic.”
The other half of the musical duo, Jeff (Scott Krinsky) was discovered to be suffering from long-term carbon monoxide poisoning. And now that he’s cured of that, he’s seeing right through his former best friend’s ulterior motives. And Sahay teases that we’ll see the worst of his character on Friday’s episode.
“The upcoming episode takes it to the next level,” he says. “Things will happen that I don’t think anyone really saw coming. Lester never really had to deal with real consequences, because he’s always had a partner in crime that would soften the blow and somehow make his actions not feel quite as terrible, but that has changed – at least for now.”
Chuck’s fifth and final season airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
