NBC has picked up comedy projects from New Girl's Joe Port and Joe Wiseman and Parenthood's Jason Katims.

The former, Joe, Joe and Jane, was among the biggest comedic bets the network made this development season. In October, NBC made a pilot production commitment plus seven-figure penalty for the semi-autobiographical relationship comedy from Port and Wiseman.

Their half-hour multicamera project centers on a conflict-avoidant children's book author caught in an ongoing tug of war between two needy, flawed people: his wife and his co-author/ best friend; it's not about a couple, it's about a "trouple."

Port and Wiseman will write and executive produce the project, which is set up at 20th TV, where the pair inked an overall deal in 2011. The men, whose shared credits include Last Man Standing, The Office and Just Shoot Me, are repped by UTA and Myman Greenspan.

Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that NBC has gone ahead and granted a pilot order for About a Boy, from the former Friday Night Lights showrunner. The half-hour Katims comedy is being adapted from Nick Hornby's novel as well as the 2002 Hugh Grant film.

For Katims, who will write and executive produce the Universal TV/True Jack production, this marks his third project this development season. The others: a CIA drama and a romantic dramedy with Parenthood's Sarah Watson, both at Fox.
