NBC is showing a sign of confidence to Sean Saves the World.

The network has picked up the freshman comedy for four additional scripts, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

The Thursday night comedy is averaging 4 million total viewers and a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 when factoring in live-plus-seven DVR returns. The multicamera comedy starring Sean Hayes from Universal Television received little traction early this season from its previous lead-in, the since-canceled Welcome to the Family. The comedy, about a openly gay single father learning to take care of his teenage daughter, posted a modest uptick last week, airing after a Saturday Night Live special (1.2 in the demo).

The order for additional scripts comes as NBC looks to firm up its Thursday roster heading into the new year, when Community will join the schedule and Parks and Recreation will become Sean's new lead-in at 8:30 p.m.

For Hayes, the news comes as he continues to oversee a full roster of NBC fare. His Hazy Mills banner with college pal Todd Milliner produces Friday drama Grimm and the upcoming second season of unscripted entry Hollywood Game Night.
