CBS' NCIS: Los Angeles is building up its ranks for season nine.

Nia Long has joined the cast of the NCIS spinoff as a series regular. She will make her debut in the season nine premiere slated for Sunday, Oct. 1 at 9:30 p.m.

Long (Boyz N the Hood, Soul Food, The Best Man) will play Shay Mosely, the team's new executive assistant director. As a former secret service agent now working for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Mosely is an experienced Washington insider who brings an East Coast style and demeanor to the West Coast team.

“The character was created specifically for Nia to capitalize on her strengths and personality and we are excited about the new opportunities and dynamics she brings to the show,” said NCIS: Los Angeles executive producer R. Scott Gemmill. “We couldn’t be happier to have her join our family.”

Long, who can next be seen in indie feature Lemon, is fresh off recurring roles in Fox's Empire and Netflix's Dear White People. Her small screen credits also include ABC's Uncle Buck reboot, The Cleveland Show and Third Watch. She's repped by CAA, Primary Wave and Meyer Downs.

The casting comes days after the flagship NCIS enlisted Maria Bello as a series regular for its upcoming 15th season.
