Nicole Holofcener to Direct Amazon's Tig Notaro Comedy (Exclusive)
Count Nicole Holofcener among the latest big-screen names headed for Amazon.
The writer-director behind Friends With Money has been tapped to helm Amazon's Tig Notaro comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The stand-up comedian — currently the subject of an HBO comedy special and a Netflix documentary — is set to star in and co-write a semiautobiographical comedy pilot.
The untitled comedy will be written by Notaro and Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno). Notaro and Cody will executive produce the single-camera entry alongside Louis C.K. The pilot hails from C.K.'s FX Productions-based Pig Newton banner. Dave Becky of 3 Arts and Blair Breard (Louie) also are attached as executive producers.
Here's the logline: "Tig Notaro has just recovered from an abdominal disease that has left her gaunt, wasted, exhausted and pretty much stripped of everything except her finely honed sense of the absurd. Abruptly summoned home to Pass Christian, Miss., to take her ailing mother off life support, Tig finds herself dealing with her clingy girlfriend, her dysfunctional Gulf Coast family and the loss of the one person who held everything together."
The comedy initially was set up as a script deal at FX but recently moved to Amazon, where it was picked up to pilot.
For Holofcener, the Notaro pilot marks her latest TV directing foray. Her credits include helming episodes of Orange Is the New Black, Inside Amy Schumer, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Togetherness and Parks and Recreation, among others. She's repped by UTA and Jackoway Tyerman.
