'The Office' Shakeup Continues as Search for New Showrunner Begins

The duo has boarded the Thursday night comedy as executive producers for the show's upcoming ninth season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The pair will fill the void created by the departure of Paul Lieberstein as showrunner of the network's No. 1 comedy as he shifts his focus to a potential spinoff starring Rainn Wilson.

Sterling most recently co-created Sarah Silverman's NBC comedy pilot Susan 313, which the network passed on this month; Forrester, has been a consulting producer on The Office since its third season. Both previously worked with Office creator Greg Daniels on Fox's animated comedy King of the Hill. A decision on who will serve as showrunner has yet to be determined.

The additions come as the veteran comedy is beginning a creative overhaul created by the departure of Mindy Kaling, who is departing the workplace series to focus on writing and starring in comedy The Mindy Project, which Fox ordered to series this month.

Stars Ed Helms, John Krasinski and Jenna Fisher, meanwhile, are all poised to return to the comedy, while James Spader has opted not to continue on with the series.

Sterling (Girls) is repped by UTA and Sloane Offer; Forrester is with UTA, Levity Entertainment Group and Jackoway Tyerman.
