Olympics 2012: 'McKayla Is Not Impressed' by NBC, Beyonce and Justin Bieber
McKayla Maroney, the stern-faced U.S. Olympic gymnast and champion vaulter, becomes an internet phenomenon.
McKayla Maroney might not have scored the gold medal for the vault, but the U.S. Olympic gymnast's less-than-enthused reaction to winning silver is now the stuff of Internet legend, joining the ranks of such viral phenomena as "Keanu Is Sad" and Princess Beatrice's hat.
The meme, "mckayla is not impressed," was launched after the power vaulter's loss Sunday to Romania's Sandra Izbasa. A shoo-in for the gold, she settled for second-best after falling on her second vault during the event's London final.
"I already knew that I pretty much only had the silver medal," said Maroney, who scored a gold medal with Team USA last week. "I really didn't deserve to win a gold medal if I fall on my butt. I was still happy with a silver, but it's still just sad."
Her face said as much as she stood on the podium with arms crossed and lips pursed.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Gavin Alaoen, a 28-year-old digital designer from New York, cooked up "mckayla is not impressed" on Tumblr on Tuesday night, photoshopping her pouty expression into an image of Usain Bolt striking a pose with London games mascot Wenlock as well as a courtside shot of the U.S. men's basketball team.
Less than 48 hours later, the blog has blown up with more examples of Maroney not being impressed: There she is in front of NBC's 30 Rock headquarters, there she is when Beyonce flaunted her baby bump at MTV's Video Music Awards, and there she is sulking in the background while Kim Kardashian and Kanye West stroll hand in hand. She's also unenthused by man walking on the moon, Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and Justin Bieber's dance moves.
Meanwhile, we imagine Maroney visiting the blog, scrolling down for five seconds, smirking while rolling her eyes ... and hitting the vault to prepare for 2016.
