'Once Upon a Time' Preview: Mr. Gold Sets His Sights on August (Exclusive Video)
The mysterious writer's identity comes under scrutiny on Sunday's episode of the ABC drama.
While the whole town focuses on Kathryn’s (Anastasia Griffith) miraculous return, Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) zeroes in on the strange writer who has recently made Storybrooke his home on ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

“He’s trying to figure out who August is,” Writer and Consulting Producer Jane Espenson tells The Hollywood Reporter. “At the same time in Fairytale Land, we’re going to see his back-story and really complicated interaction with his son who’s not really happy with who his father is turning into. He’s dealing with two different characters – if they are two different characters.”
Espenson isn't saying anything that ABC hasn't already released in its episode description for "The Return." But, some may believe the network has already spoiled August’s (Eion Bailey) identity for them, but Espenson (who’s also worked on Battlestar Galactica, Caprica and Torchwood) says it may not be that cut and dry.

“I’ve heard some very good theories as to who August is,” she says. “I’ve heard the right theory. Someone out there has the right answer, but you have to be very careful on our show about clues and spoilers. Sometimes, the clue and spoiler are pointing out a mislead.”

Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
