OWN Renews 'Raising Whitley,' Orders More 'Deion's Family Playbook'
OWN is investing in its Saturday night docuseries.
The cable network has renewed comedian Kym Whitley's docuseries Raising Whitley for a second season and ordered additional episodes of former NFL and MLB star Deion Sanders' entry Deion's Family Playbook. Both shows will return for additional runs of eight episodes.
From Pilgrim Studios, Raising Whitley has been a solid performer for OWN. The series notched a season high in its March 8 finale, delivering a .72 rating among OWN's core women 25-54 demographic and collecting 782,000 total viewers.
Deion's Family Playbook, from Edmonds Entertainment, Prime Time Media Ventures and Rogue Atlas Productions, has averaged a .64 rating among women 25-54 and 716,000 total viewers. It ranks as the highest-rated first season-to-date of a series among all docuseries in OWN's history.
Both Whitley and Deion have helped OWN increase its Saturday business among women 25-54, with OWN up 75 percent in the first quarter year-over-year. OWN also had three of the top five original cable series among African-American women ages 25-54, with Whitley, Deion and Welcome to Sweetie Pies.
"Each week we get to see another side of celebrity life as they handle the daily ups and downs of raising their families with laughter and humor along the way, and the audiences keep growing as the stories unfold," OWN president Erik Logan said in a statement announcing the news Tuesday.
