Patricia Arquette is returning to broadcast television.

The Medium and Boardwalk Empire alum has been tapped to star in CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation spinoff pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The spinoff, scheduled to air as a backdoor pilot in the spring, centers on how technology has amplified human behavior to the point where faceless criminals are committing crimes at global proportions with a touch of a button.

Arquette will star as Avery Ryan, the special agent in charge at the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI in Quantico, Va., who is tasked with solving high-octane crimes that start in the mind, live online and play out in the real world.

Should the CSI spinoff move forward, the role would mark Arquette's return to broadcast television following her seven-season run on NBC's Medium. That role earned Arquette three Golden Globe nominations as well as two Emmy noms and a win in 2005.

Arquette most recently had a multiple-episode arc on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, playing a love interest for Nucky (Steve Buscemi). Her credits include a 2012 episode of Law & Order: SVU as well as features Holes and Little Nicky and the upcoming Martin Scorsese feature The Wannabe. She is repped by Gersh and 3 Arts.

The CSI spinoff, which is inspired by cyber-psychologist Mary Aiken's work, hails from CSI creators Anthony E. Zuiker, Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue. The trio will pen the script for the CBS Television Studios drama and executive produce alongside Bruckheimer Television's Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman. Aiken will receive a producer credit.
