Gossip Girl grad Penn Badgley is returning to the small screen.

The actor has been tapped to star in Lifetime's straight-to-series thriller You.

From writers and exec producers Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble (The Magicians), You is based on the book of the same name by Caroline Kepnes. Described as a psychological thriller, the 10-episode drama is a 21st century love story that asks what you would do for love. When a brilliant bookstore manager, Joe (Penn Badgley) crosses paths with an aspiring writer, his answer becomes clear: anything. Using the internet and social media as his tools to gather the most intimate of details and get close to her, a charming and awkward crush quickly becomes obsession as he quietly and strategically removes every obstacle — and person — in his way.

The series marks Badgley's first TV series since his six-season run as Dan Humphrey on The CW's Gossip Girl ended in 2012. His feature film credits include Easy A, John Tucker Must Die and Margin Call. He's repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Hansen Jacobson.

Berlanti and Gamble will pen the script and exec produce alongside Greg Berlanti Productions topper Sarah Schechter and Alloy Entertainment's Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. The series is a co-production of Warner Horizon Scripted Television (with Berlanti under an overall with Warner Bros. Television), A+E Studios and Alloy.
