Johnny Simmons, who played closeted star quarterback Brad in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, has joined the one-hour drama pilot executive produced by Smash's David Marshall Grant, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From CBS TV Studios and Timberman-Beverly Productions, Blink is a warm, quirky, humorous drama about the Trask family, whose lives are forever changed, for better and worse, when patriarch Greg has a car crash resulting in a coma-like syndrome in which he cannot speak or move but can see and hear all. Narration and fantasy sequences emanating from his mind provide context and a wry counterpoint to the stories and conflicts of the family and his own situation.

Simmons will play Dodge Trask, the middle child in the family, who is currently directionless. A talented musician who has given up playing and is now working as a door-to-door salesman, Dodge was a passenger in the wreck that left his father in a coma.

Vera Herbert (Awkward) will write and executive produce, along with Grant, Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman. Peter Hedges will direct the pilot. Simmons joins a cast that includes Mr. Popper's Penguins' Madeline Carroll and House's Michael Weston.
