ABC Family Sets Summer Premiere Dates for 'Pretty Little Liars,' 'Jane By Design,' Newcomers
ABC Family is prepping a summer schedule that includes three nights of originals.
Among the offerings are three new series, hour-long drama Bunheads, half-hour comedy Baby Daddy and the one-hour docuseries Beverly Hills Nannies. They will join a summer slate that already includes Pretty Little Liars, Jane By Design and Melissa and Joey.
Bunheads, which will bow Monday, June 11 at 9 p.m., hails from Gilmore Girls’ Amy Sherman-Palladino. The series, which centers on a Las Vegas showgirl who impulsively marries a man, moves to his sleepy coastal town and takes an uneasy role at her new mother-in-law’s dance school, is being headlined by Tony-award winning actress Sutton Foster.
The following Wednesday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m., comes the premiere of Baby Daddy, from executive producer Dan Berendsen (The Nine Lives of Chloe King, Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, Hannah Montana: The Movie). The comedy revolves around a young man (Jean-Luc Bilodeau) who becomes a dad to a baby girl when she’s left on his doorstep by an ex-girlfriend. He chooses to raise the child with the help of his mother (Melissa Peterman), his brother (Derek Theler), his best buddy Tucker (Tahj Mowry) and his close friend, Riley (Chelsea Kane).
For its part, Beverly Hills Nannies comes from the production company behind The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Orange County. The docuseries, which launches Wednesday, July at 11 at 9 p.m., follows the lives of a group of nannies working for families in the exclusive California zip code.
Pretty Little Liars, which was named Twitter’s No. 1 TV trending topic of 2011, will return for its third season on Tuesday, June 5 at 8 p.m., while Jane by Design returns for a second season on Tuesday, June 5 at 9 p.m. Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence’s Melissa & Joey will return Wednesday, May 30th at 8 p.m.
Liars airs its anticipated sophomore finale, during which the identity of "A" will be revealed, on Monday night following two seasons of set-up and mystery.
Previously announced scheduling announcements include the Monday, March 26 bow of the network’s longest running series, The Secret Life of the American Teenager. The show’s fifth season will include the show’s 100th episode, a milestone no other ABC Family original has achieved. Switched at Birth will return in the fall.
