'Pretty Little Liars': Spencer Goes Mental
On Tuesday's episode, Spencer breaks the news about Toby, Det. Wilden's whereabouts are questioned and one of the four Liars finds herself at a new low.
[Warning: Spoilers from Tuesday's "Out of Sight, Out of Mind."]
What is going on in Rosewood?
On the latest installment of Pretty Little Liars, now that Spencer (Troian Bellisario) has told the girls that Toby (Keegan Allen) is part of the "A" team, she's opened a can of worms.
The top moments from Tuesday's episode, "Out of Sight, Out of Mind":
STORY: 'Pretty Little Liars': Julian Morris on What's Next for Wren and Spencer
Is Toby dead? Spencer wants Emily (Shay Mitchell) to face the fact that Toby isn't all that innocent. "The quicker you wrap your mind around this, the better," prompting Emily to ask Toby -- via text message -- to meet. See, Emily believes there's more to this Toby story than meets the eye (and there probably is). She finds a parking pass for an "E. Lamb," the same pseudonym Toby used to get in and out of Radley. "A" sends Spencer a warning note with those orchids we saw at the end of last week: "Someone close to you will pay for your loose lips." And it takes Spencer a while to figure out that Emily may be the target (clue: every other letter on the ribbon was shiny except for an "e" and "m.").
Later, Mona (Janel Parrish) and Spencer have a run-in at the coffee shop, and to say it's awkward and confrontational is a big understatement. Spencer isn't buying that Mona is unaware of the flowers/messages Spencer received, especially after Mona says pointedly, "They didn't make it through the night," in reference to the orchids. Then Mona shoots a look at Emily. A warning shot? Things are starting to get fishy, and Spencer begs Emily not to keep searching for Toby (Emily runs an "E. Lamb" search on her mom's computer at the police station before Toby texts her back). Emily ends up spending two hours waiting for Toby before catching a blonde in a red coat (who was that?) and bumping into Toby's friend from before, who somehow knows her name even though she never told it to him. Things aren't adding up.
STORY: 'Pretty Little Liars': Wren Makes a Move, Ezra Returns and Wilden Stirs Up Trouble
Meanwhile, Spencer comes across a body in the forest with a tattoo that makes her think it's Toby. After receiving confirmation -- from Mona, of all people -- that the body (its head is covered by a helmet) is Toby, Spencer goes deeper down the rabbit hole. (Who thought that was possible?) The following morning, Spencer -- looking even worse for wear -- finds herself locked up. Is she going crazy?
Where is Det. Wilden? Is he still in Rosewood? Is he dead? It's another big mystery that played at the forefront of Tuesday's episode. For much of the episode Hanna (Ashley Benson) and her mom, Ashley (Laura Leighton), try to figure out what actually happened -- they still don't know -- and what their next move is. Ashley demands that Hanna not say a word to her friends. One day, Ashley thinks she sees Wilden staring from across the street, but within moments, he's gone. Was she hallucinating? And at one point, Wilden's cop car is in the garage with footage of Ashley and Wilden's encounter and Wilden getting hit playing on repeat. Who put it there? Later, Wilden's car sinks in the lake, but it's not until a fisherman catches the Rosewood Police cap that things start to get ugly.
Aria is the fourth wheel: Now that Maggie's (Larisa Oleynik) been displaced thanks to Ezra's (Ian Harding) lovely mother, expect much more Malcolm and Maggie in Rosewood. Aria's (Lucy Hale) first meeting with Ezra's son is interesting, and they bond. Malcolm is being a normal kid, jumping on beds, but is rushed to the hospital after he falls. That's when things go sour for Aria, who's forced to wait outside the hospital room because she isn't, you know, related to Malcolm. It's fitting that Aria's mom Ella (Holly Marie Combs) gives a sound piece of advice: "Not every relationship is meant to last forever. Sometimes the best thing you can do is to step back and give yourself a chance to breathe." Will Aria take that advice?
What are your thoughts on the episode?
Pretty Little Liars airs at 8 p.m. Tuesdays on ABC Family.
