Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) hasn't had much time to cultivate a love life recently on Pretty Little Liars, but that's all about to change.

When the ABC Family drama's fifth season wrapped up in March, the Liars were being held captive by the mysterious Charles DiLaurentis, aka "A," while Ali just had been released from jail. During Tuesday's season-six premiere, viewers will learn just how much of a toll this has taken on the girls.

"Not only were they kidnapped, but there's a lot of demons that they have to deal with, and there's a lot of dark, scary, weird, crazy things that they had to deal with in the dollhouse," Pieterse tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Pieterse confirmed that Charles is, in fact, part of the DiLaurentis family, although Ali surprisingly does not know that he exists at the start of the season.

" 'A' is hyperintelligent and getting his money from somewhere, and when you find out how that is, it's really disturbing," she says, adding that viewers will see Ali "run through the woods quite a bit in the premiere."

Pieterse also is excited for fans to experience the forthcoming four-year time jump, which will come at the end of the show's summer run. As it turns out, Ali finds herself in a pretty good place when the jump happens, as she will have started a relationship with a man whom viewers have yet to meet.

"Before the time jump, you see that she has a love interest," says Pieterse. "It's really new for her, and she doesn't know where it's going to go, and it comes at an odd time. It's weird for her to be involved with someone who knows nothing about her."

Does this mean the — gasp! — death knell for Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Ali? "High-school sweethearts and love interests like that, they don't always last," says Pieterse. "It's going to be interesting to see the way the fans react."

Pretty Little Liars' new season premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. on ABC Family. Head to the comments section to share your theories about Charles and what's next for Emison!
