'Pretty Little Liars': 9 Key Moments From the Season 3 Premiere
Five months after "A's" reveal and Maya's untimely death, Rosewood is picking up the pieces but as Tuesday's return indicates, the town's residents are getting shadier by the minute.
Pretty Little Liars knocked the ball out of the park with the season three premiere.
Not only did it update us on what (sort of) happened during the five months in between seasons, the episode also revealed some interesting after-effects -- and one of them included a big scene with Mona, Hanna and a familiar face that was quite surprising.
Here's a rundown of the most note-worthy developments from Tuesday's episode:
[Warning: Spoilers ahead.]
Hanna Visits Mona (and Lies About It): After stretching the truth with the girls about seeing Dr. Sullivan for therapy, Hanna instead pays a visit to Mona at the sanitarium -- one of many, it's revealed. "I am lying to everyone I care about for weeks," Hanna exclaims to the mute "A." During one of her visits, Hanna bumps into good doc Wren, who pays it forward by telling Hanna that her visits are helping Mona progress.
In one of the creepiest scenes of the episode, and the "big" one we were referring to earlier, Mona sees Alison sitting on the empty chair behind Hanna wearing the red coat. Shudder.
Someone's Watching the Girls: Another "A" resurfaces and while Mona dealt with creepy, talking dolls, this one makes it known that s/he will go to great lengths (i.e. murder someone) to get their fill: "Mona played with dolls. I play with body parts. Game on, bitches. -- A"
Emily Remembers 'That Night': It took the entire episode, but Emily finally recalled a key moment from the night she was seen hovering over Alison's empty grave. The grieving teen remembers -- after seeing a car parked on the street -- that she was locked up in the trunk. OK, so it's not much but it's a start.
Aria Sees 'A' or Does She?: Locked in a bathroom stall is enough to make anyone go a little crazy, but Aria has a full-on panic attack, thinking she saw "A" even though Mona is still in the sanitarium. Is she seeing things?
Garrett Knows the Body-Stealing Culprit: He's still locked up behind bars (thank God), but he reveals an enticing little tidbit to Spencer when she visits. He knows the suspect behind the crime. Who could it be?
Lucas' Shady Actions Get Picked Up: The masquerade ball was a tell-tale sign that something was going on with former awkward geek Lucas. Now that he's hanging out with the mysterious Black Swan, Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer are noticing a change in his demeanor -- even going so far as to assume that something darker is going on. (They're probably right.)
Hanna's Mom Desperate to Date: After dealing with financial problems and a fling with a Rosewood cop, Hanna's mom Ashley is ready to start a new chapter. "You're open to date but you're not open for business," Hanna tells her mom early on in the episode.
The Montgomerys Aren't Perfect Anymore: Though Byron wasn't seen in the episode, it's revealed that Aria's parents are having marital troubles. This doesn't bode well for Aria and Ezra as they attempt to embark on their romance.
All's Well in the Romance Dept.: For the most part, the girls' love lives are on stable feet (Toby is even living alone upstairs from the town bar!), though "Ezria" may be the first to tumble.
