Pretty Little Liars was on a mission in the season-seven premiere, but unfortunately for one Liar, it was an impossible one.

Hanna's (Ashley Benson) fate was revealed within the first few minutes of the episode: She is alive, but held hostage and tortured by "A.D." for 24 hours until the rest of the group can figure out who killed Charlotte DiLaurentis (Vanessa Ray). After a frantic scramble of following Mary Drake (Andrea Barber), tapping her phone, and investigating both Alison (Sasha Pieterse) and Mary's homes, they still were unable to pin the murder on anyone — until someone confessed.

While Emily (Shay Mitchell) was visiting Ali in the psych ward, she asked her point blank: "Did you kill Charlotte?" Ali doesn't say "yes," but she does mumble, "please forgive me," before slipping back into unconsciousness.

To prove that Ali actually killed her sister, Emily goes searching for the red coat that Ali was apparently wearing when the murder went down — Ezra (Ian Harding) and Aria (Lucy Hale) saw either Alison or Charlotte entering the church on the night of Charlotte's murder — and unfortunately, she finds it.

Once Emily brings it to the group, Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) snatches it and drops it off at Mary's home, the Lost Woods Resort, and texts "A.D." that Alison is the killer. At the same time, Hanna is able to escape through an air vent and runs frantically through the woods in search of help. But instead of finding Caleb, she runs straight into Mary Drake. Looks like it will be at least another week until they truly save Hanna.

The new "A.D." has yet to be unmasked, but after Elliott approaches Alison and injects her with a powerful shot of unknown drugs, it hints that he could be behind the latest texts.

“I’m going to make sure you live a long life rotting away in here. I know you killed Charlotte," Elliott whispers to his wife, Ali, in his true British accent. "Just like you Alison, karma can be such a bitch.”

Pretty Little Liars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on Freeform.
