USA Network Sets 'Psych' 'Slumber Party' Marathon Ahead of Return (Exclusive)
A "Save the Date" for the "event" was released this month, but THR has the details on the six-hour all-nighter that asks for fan participation.
A Psych all-nighter is less than one month away.
Beginning 12 a.m. PST/EST on Friday, Feb. 15 through 6 a.m. PST/EST on Saturday, Feb. 16, USA Network will hold a marathon to ramp up the network's longest-running current series premiere later that month, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
STORY: 'Psych' Asks Fans to Create Season 7 Tagline
Dubbed the "Psych Slumber Party," seven episodes will be played during the span of six hours, with footage of series stars James Roday, Dule Hill, Tim Omundson and Maggie Lawson taking part in their own "slumber party" playing throughout the marathon. A "Save the Date" teasing an event was released earlier this month on social media.
Like the Psych "Tag iiiit" initiative, which tasked viewers to create taglines for the upcoming seventh season, viewers will vote for the episodes they would like to see from a list of 20 of creator Steve Franks' favorites. Some of Franks' favorites include "Spellingg Bee" (1x02), "Scary Sherry" (1x11), "American Duos" (2x02), "Shawn (and Gus) of the Dead" (2x16), "Tuesday the 17th" (3x15), "A Very Juliet Episode" (4x12), "Dual Spires" (5x12), "This Episode Sucks" (6x03) and "Indiana Shawn" (6x10). Voting begins Friday through Jan. 31 via Psych's official website and Facebook page.
STORY: 'Psych' Season 7 Premiere Date Revealed
This isn't the first time USA has engaged in a significant way with viewers of its shows through a digital platform. In addition to Psych's tagline contest, the network in 2011 launched #HashTagKiller mystery and two weeks prior to the return of White Collar last January introduced a similar initiative tied to the show's content.
Psych, already renewed for a season eight, returns Feb. 27 at 10 p.m. on USA.
