'Psych's' James Roday to Star in CBS Comedy 'Good Session'
Psych star James Roday has already lined up his next gig.
After USA Network's veteran comedy wraps its eight-season run in March, Roday will segue to CBS with a starring role in the network's comedy pilot Good Session.
From Chuck's Matt Miller, the single-camera comedy centers on a happy couple who decides to see a therapist to help them decide if they should have a baby but quickly discover that they have more to discuss.
Roday will topline the comedy as Joel, a dedicated middle-school guidance counselor who thinks his marriage to Lindsay -- a jet-setting executive -- is a happy one. But when they disagree about whether the time is right to start a family, the begin the painful, funny, embarrassing and ultimately rewarding road of couples counseling.
Miller will pen the script and exec produce alongside John Hamburg, the latter of whom will direct the Warner Bros. Television pilot set to shoot in L.A. Roday joins a cast that also includes Rich Sommer. The role of Lindsay has yet to be cast.
Roday has played Shawn Spencer for eight seasons on USA's signature series Psych. His credits include NBC's Miss Match and features Gamer, Beerfest and The Dukes of Hazzard. He's repped by CAA and Principal Entertainment.
Worth noting: Roday's Psych co-star Maggie Lawson also has a lead role in CBS' marriage comedy Save the Date, after her starring turn in ABC's short-lived comedy Back in the Game.
