Reelz Enters Scripted Drama Arena With Steven Seagal's 'True Justice'
The cop series marks the network's first foray into original programming.
ReelzChannel has entered the scripted arena.
The network that picked up the History Channel's controversial Kennedys miniseries, has picked up True Justice, a Seattle-set cop drama starring Steven Seagal.
Produced by Sojo Productions and Voltage Pictures in association with Steamroller Productions, Reelz will premiere the series in March.
“Seagal’s movies are top performers on our network which makes True Justice the perfect series to satisfy our viewers’ appetite for action fare," Reelz senior vp programming Matthew Singerman said in a statement announcing the news Wednesday.
Seagal stars as Elijah Kane, the leader of an undercover team of cops who take on local criminals in an effort to clean up the streets. Seagal, Nicolas Chartier and Phillip Goldfine executive produce the series, with Keoni Waxman on board as co-exec producer/director.
Sarah Lind, Warren Christie and Meghan Ory co-star.
ICM, Voltage's Nadine DeBarros and Jen Lee and attorney Doran Chandler brokered the deal.
The Kennedys set a ratings record for the network, collecting 1.9 million total viewers for its April premiere. The series landed 11 Emmy nominations for the network, taking home wins for lead actor for Barry Pepper as well as sound mixing and makeup in the miniseries or movie category.
Seagal's most recent TV work came on the A&E reality series Steven Seagal: Lawman.
