'Revenge's' Barry Sloane to Star in ABC's Alien Drama 'The Visitors'
Barry Sloane's Revenge days may be numbered.
The actor, who plays Aiden on the ABC soap, has been tapped to star in the network's alien drama pilot The Visitors, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The role is in first position to Revenge, though his future with the veteran soap is still being determined.
The drama, from executive producer Steven Spielberg, is described as a race against the clock to defeat an unseen alien enemy out to destroy the world using the Earth's most precious resource: children.
Sloane will play Wes Lawrence, a former FBI agent now with the special projects division of the Defense Department who investigates military threats that are best solved outside the public's knowledge. The married father is assigned to investigate a shocking discovery in the Algerian desert, where he finds himself embroiled in history’s most explosive event -- the realization that we are not alone in this world. As a result, Wes -- who has ties to the president and the various corridors of powers -- will have no choice but to delve deep into the murky, dirty battlefield of politics in order to get the world to take action. He joins forces with Claire (the lead role, which has yet to be cast) --the woman he once had an affair with.
Under the Dome's Soo Hugh will pen the script and executive produce the Amblin TV and Grady Girl Productions entry alongside Dawn Olmstead, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Spielberg. Mark Romanek will direct the pilot. Derek Webster co-stars.
The Visitors -- like Revenge -- hails from ABC Studios. The role is in first position to ABC's Emily VanCamp starrer and, should the soap earn a fourth season renewal, Sloane has the option to return as a recurring guest star.
Repped by Innovative, Silver Lining Entertainment and BWH, Sloane -- who fielded multiple pilot offers this season -- has been a regular on Revenge since season two. His credits include Holby City, Hollyoaks and the upcoming feature Noah.
