Rihanna's 'Styled to Rock' Competition Series Adds Final Mentor (Exclusive)
Mel Ottenberg, the singer's stylist, joins the upcoming Style Network show.
Style Network's Styled to Rock has rounded out its mentors.
The upcoming fashion competition series has tapped Rihanna's stylist Mel Ottenberg as the third and final mentor, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. He joins previously announced mentors Erin Wasson and Pharrell Williams.
Styled to Rock, pitting 12 up-and-coming designers against each other as they style A-list talent in entertainment, will premiere its 10-episode run later this year. The celebrity guest of the week will decide which designer best achieves their vision and advances to the next round. With the threat of elimination looming, the remaining designers meet with the three mentors to analyze where they fell short and who will be eliminated from the competition.
“Mel is one of the most respected stylists in fashion and has created some of the most memorable and distinct looks for A-list stars,” said Salaam Coleman Smith, president of Style Media, in a statement. “With the shared expertise of Mel, Pharrell, Erin and Rihanna as executive producer, our designers will have a rare opportunity to learn from innovators in the world of music and fashion.”
"Mel and I have such a similar aesthetic. It’s as if he can read my mind sometimes,” said Rihanna, who serves as executive producer, in a statement. “I love his attention to detail and all the research he does for every look. He is more than a stylist. He is an artist.”
Ottenberg, who has styled Cate Blanchett, Chloe Sevigny and James Franco, currently works with Rihanna, styling her for album covers, music videos, appearances and her current Diamonds world tour. His work has appeared in several fashion magazines, including Harper's Bazaar, V, New York Times Style Magazine and GQ Style.
Styled to Rock is executive produced by Robyn Rihanna Fenty and is produced by Shed Media U.S., Overbrook Entertainment and Marcy Media Films. Nick Emmerson, Pam Healey, Dan Peirson, James Lassiter also serve as EPs, with Sarah Weidman and Merah Chung.
