Russell Brand and Katy Perry Divorce: What Hollywood Is Saying
Russell Simmons, Giuliana Rancic and other stars weigh in on the demise of the couple's 14-month marriage.
After spending the holidays apart, and going ringless to boot, Russell Brand has filed for divorce from Katy Perry, his bombshell-pop star wife of 14 months.
"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends," the 36-year-old British actor and comedian said in a statement Friday.
Hollywood and music-industry insiders, meanwhile, are taking to Twitter to express their condolences for -- and crack jokes at the expense of -- the short-lived and once-happy power couple:
Blasting the news to her millions of followers, E! News co-host Giuliana Rancic wrote: "Russell Brand just filed for divorce from Katy Perry. Ugh."

Multi-hyphenate hip hop mogul and self-help book author Russell Simmons also chimed in on the social-networking site, tweeting: "thinking about my two friends Russell Brand and Katy Perry and hoping for happiness for both."
NBC's Carson Daly summed up his reaction in one word: "SHOCKER.... ." (It wasn't clear whether he was being serious or sarcastic.)
Other Twitter-happy industry people were much more cutting.
Actor Joshua Malina, formerly of The West Wing, tweeted: "If Russell Brand and Katy Perry can't make it work ... nope, can't think how that applies to anything else."

BBC presenter Andrew Neil sniped, "How boringly predictable: Russell Brand and Katy Perry are getting a divorce. Why did they bother to get married?" Said comic writer Andy Borowitz said: "If Russell Brand and Katy Perry can't make it work, what chance do people I can stand have?" And here's the response from comedian Anthony Jeselnik: "I almost threw up when I heard about Russell Brand and Katy Perry. In general." VIDEO: Katy Perry Hosts "SNL" Mommy blogger Kelly Oxford, a micro-Twitter celebrity whose autobiopraphical sitcom pilot was just picked up by CBS, offered an ego boost to Perry."I still feel like Katy Perry is what Hugh Hefner would do if he got his hands on Zooey Deschanel," she wrote, with trademark dry wit.
As for Perry, she has not posted on her Twittter page since Dec. 26.
