'Scream Queens' Plots Halloween Episodes, Parodies Taylor Swift's 'Swiftmas' Video
Forget Swiftmas, it's time for Chanel-O-Ween.
Scream Queens co-creator Ryan Murphy announced via Twitter Friday that his Fox horror-comedy would be doing not one or two but three Halloween-themed episodes in the coming weeks. And to give the series’ rabid millennial fan base a glimpse into how the show intends to celebrate, Murphy released a wickedly funny three-minute clip that stands as his and co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan’s latest nod to pop culture.
Chanel-O-Ween, as next week's episode is appropriately titled, will include a delicious parody of Taylor Swift’s widely-viewed "Swiftmas" gift-giving video, in which the famously earnest pop star hand-wraps presents for several of her biggest fans and then captures their emotional responses as they open them up and read her personalized notes. In the case of Chanel-O-Ween, Kappa Kappa Tau sorority president Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) plays the Santa Claus-esque Swift role, though, predictably, she lacks both Swift’s earnestness and her thoughtful approach to holiday gift giving.
In fact, before Chanel begins wrapping the batch of gifts for her fans, which include a razor apple and a severed hand, she says to camera, "I’m a future network news anchor who’s super classy and has almost no fat on her body, but a lot of my fans are, like, friendless dumpy co-eds at this or that nursing school in one of this country’s various national armpits. And Chanel-O-Ween is the one time of year where I can give these precious donkeys something to look forward to."
Watch the entire clip below, along with Scream Queens on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
