'Secret Life of the American Teenager' Cast Spills Season 5 Secrets (Video)
Shailene Woodley, Daren Kagasoff and their co-stars tell THR what viewers can expect when the ABC Family series returns on Monday, March 26.
The wait is almost over, Secret Life fans, as the beloved ABC Family series is set to return for its fifth season on Monday, March 26.
The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the Secret Life of the American Teenager cast during the show’s 100th episode celebration, where Shailene Woodley (Amy), Daren Kagasoff (Ricky), Francia Raisa (Adrian), Ken Baumann (Ben) and Megan Park (Grace) dished on what’s to come in the next drama-filled season.
Among the hints: some crime, new relationships and… another baby?
“We’ve got a lot of good stuff,” Kagasoff told THR. “Last season ended with me proposing to Amy, and I think fans are waiting for us to get married. So you guys get to see if that happens.”
As fans anxiously await the potential Amy-Ricky nuptials, promos for the season five premiere promise a bombshell reveal. Could the couple’s family tree be growing? While speaking with THR at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards, Woodley hinted that another baby could be on the way for one of the characters.
“There might be another baby, I don't know,” Raisa said when asked about the potential storyline. “I’m very good at keeping a secret on this Secret Life of the American Teenager!”
In a throwback to season one, Raisa also told THR that her character Adrian continues to have feelings for Ricky, even as he continues to pursue a relationship with Amy -- the mother of his child.
“Her obsession with Ricky is not yet over and I don't know if it ever will be,” Raisa said. As for Ben -- who has also been involved with both Adrian and Amy -- Woodley doesn’t foresee a future with her former flame.
“I don't know if there’s any possibility of a reconciling with Ben,” she explained. “I think Amy’s pretty into Ricky. I think Ben might still be into Amy, but I think she’s pretty in love with her little triad of a family.”
Don’t count Grace out of this game of romantic musical chairs, as Park revealed: “Grace has a relationship with one of the main other cast members that you haven’t seen before that’s pretty shocking. People will not expect [it] and causes quite an uproar.”
Secret Life has long pushed boundaries of family friendly fare, showcasing the trials and tribulations of sexually active teenagers and early parenthood. This season, the show may also explore brushes with the law, as Baumann revealed that his character Ben becomes involved in some criminal activity.
