Shanice, 'Smile'-Loving '90s Singer, Lands OWN Reality Series
The R&B performer and her husband, Flex Alexander, get an eight-episode order after a May preview performed well for the network.
Shanice can now add reality star to her resume. The '90s R&B singer, best known for No. 2 Billboard hit "I Love Your Smile," has landed her own series with husband, Flex Alexander.
OWN has picked up eight episodes of the aptly titled Flex and Shanice following a positive ratings showing from a May 31 sampling of the couple's documented home life. OWN continues to use Saturdays to build a roster of reality programming, including Life With La Toya, Deion's Family Playbook and Iyanla: Fix My Life.
"Saturday nights on OWN have become the place to be for viewers seeking great family entertainment, and we are pleased to share the newest members of our family with our audience," said OWN president Sheri Salata. "Flex, Shanice and their big, loud, loving brood are not unlike many families today who have combined resources in order to get through some tough times. Seeing how their love, laughter, and enduring faith in one another makes even the most challenging of days worthwhile is both entertaining and inspiring. We think our viewers are really going to connect with them."
The sampling of Flex and Shanice was the top cable telecast of the night among OWN's targeted African-American women 25-to-54 and 18-to-49. It was also up 25 percent year-to-year with all women.
A one-hour format, the show will also star their extended family living in their home. Jeff Dyson and Vernon Lynch are executive producing for Lynch-Dyson Entertainment.
