'Smash' Adds 'Spring Awakening' Alum for Season 2
Andy Mientus will join the NBC Broadway drama as a poor kid from Brooklyn and best friends with "Newsies'" Jeremy Jordan.
Smash may have lost four stars from its freshman ranks, but it's quickly replenishing those holes.
The NBC Broadway drama has added Spring Awakening alum Andy Mientus for its upcoming second season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

As first reported by TV Line, Mientus will play a poor kid from Brooklyn with lofty goals of writing for the stage. His character will be best friends with Jeremy Jordan's new Brooklyn transplant Jimmy.
In addition to his role in the Spring Awakening traveling cast, Mientus' credits also include an off-Broadway revival of Carrie.

He joins a cast that this off-season has continued to up its Broadway pedigree with the addition of Tony-nominee Jordan (Newsies) as well as Grammy and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.
Season 1 co-stars Brian d'Arcy James (Frank), Raza Jaffrey (Dev), Jamie Cepero (Ellis) and Will Chase (Michael Swift) were let go from the series in May under new showrunner Josh Safran (Gossip Girl).
Smash is set for a midseason return on NBC.
