ABC detective drama Las Reinas has firmed up three key roles.

Golden Globe nominee Sonia Braga has signed on to star in the drama, with Chris Brancato (Narcos) set to serve as showrunner and Liz Friedlander coming aboard to direct the pilot.

The drama revolves around Detective Sonya De La Reina, who is forced to confront her past when a case compels her to reconnect with her estranged family — the most powerful criminal outfit in Miami. Thrust back into the world she thought she had left behind, Sonya must walk the murky line between the law and her family and question her true destiny as a De La Reina.

Braga will play Gabriella De La Reina, the head of one of the most powerful crime syndicates in the world. After her husband was killed, Gabriella took over their small criminal enterprise and turned it into a multinational, multimillion-dollar behemoth of illegal and legal interests. She has it all — except the one thing she wants more than anything: to bring her estranged granddaughter, Sonya, back into the fold.

Braga is a three-time Golden Globe nominee for roles in The Burning Season, Moon Over Parador and Kiss of the Spider Woman, the first of which also scored her an Emmy nom. Her credits include feature Aquarius and TV's Luke Cage, Royal Pains and Brothers & Sisters. She's represented by Untitled Entertainment and Schreck Rose.

For his part, Brancato created and executive produced Netflix drama Narcos, which he exited for an overall deal with ABC Studios. His credits include ABC's short-lived drama Of Kings and Prophets, NBC's Hannibal and The Firm. He's repped by WME and Bloom Hergott.

Friedlander, meanwhile, most recently created, directed and exec produced ABC Studios' and Las Reinas producer The Mark Gordon Co.'s bubble drama Conviction. Her credits also include CBS' Stalker. She's with CAA and Behr Abramson.

Feature scribe Dean Georgaris will pen the script for the pilot and exec produce alongside Mark Gordon and Nicholas Pepper.
