'Sons of Anarchy': Maggie Siff Talks About Playing Tara as a Mother (Video)
In Season 4 of FX’s motorcycle club drama, Siff says her character intentions are "really clear."
Maggie Siff, who plays Tara, the love interest of Jax (Charlie Hunnam) on Sons of Anarchy, told The Hollywood Reporter that in Season 4, her character knows what she wants.
Season 4, which premieres Tuesday on FX, sees the motorcycle club members returning from a long stint in jail. Tara, who had a baby while Jax was in jail, has figured out what she wants for her son.

“Well she’s a mother so you know I wasn’t entirely sure if playing that was going to be exciting but it was actually really great for the character,” said Siff. “Because it was very grounding and it makes her intentions really, really clear and gives her sort of a greater purpose in trying to get out of the life.”

Siff’s character’s relationship with Jax has been a tumultuous one, but it looks like in Season 4 they may be on the same page with their goals to get out of the Sons of Anarchy club.
“Because the show is sort of epic and Greek and oversized, there’s something really great about playing a love and a passion that’s as strong as the two of them have,” said Siff at the premiere event of Season 4. “So you know, it’s so easy to work with Charlie and we have such a nice time working together that it all just kind of rolls along.”

Siff played Rachel Menken on AMC's Mad Men, a business owner who used the services of Don Draper’s (Jon Hamm) advertising firm, and eventually had an affair with him. THR asked Siff what her opinion was of the comments Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter had made about Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner causing the firing of AMC The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont because Wiener demanded a bigger budget.

“I don’t think it was actually anything personal, you know—I know Kurt has a lot of respect for him and for that show so you know, Kurt has a lot of opinions and he just lets them go, just lets them ride,” she said. “There’s something admirable about that and sometimes a little fool-hearty and I think he knows that.”
Sons of Anarchy Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, September 6.
