'Sons of Anarchy' Recap: A Funeral for a Friend
After last week’s shocking death, how will the members of the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club move on?
[Warning: Spoilers from the Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 episode of Sons of Anarchy.]
While fans are still reeling from the brutal death of Opie (Ryan Hurst) on last week’s episode, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter told reporters that Opie’s death would affect not just the rest of the season, but the rest of the series.

Tuesday’s episode allowed the members of SAMCRO and fans of the show to say goodbye to Opie with an somber wake held at the clubhouse.
The episode began with the guys getting out of jail, and dealing with the loss of Opie. “I think Opie’s been looking for a way out since Donna died. He’s never been right since. He went out a warrior,” Jax (Charlie Hunnam) says to the club when they meet around the table. The club obviously wants revenge on Damon Pope, but Jax encourages them to agree to Pope’s demand for half of their profits from drug running.
Gemma (Katey Sagal) is bailed out of jail by Wendy, which means she must really be running out of friends. She goes with Nero (Jimmy Smits) to the brothel, which has been ripped apart by the cops. And Nero gets an eviction notice, demanding that they move out by the end of the month.
Jax visits Nero and finds out that Gemma’s beat-down on one of the hookers, Emma (Ashley Tisdale), may have led to Emma calling Vice. Nero asks Jax to find Emma and save her before his own guys can get to her.

Gemma goes to see Clay (Ron Perlman), and asks him to give her some distance. “I don’t even know who you are,” Clay responds. “Why don’t you bounce my face off the floor-- maybe then you’ll recognize me,” says Gemma. Clay then tells Gemma about Opie’s death, which causes her to fall apart and hug him for a brief moment.
Jax -- always the knight in shining armor -- goes and fetches Emma from her hotel room, which leads to Nero’s guys chasing them down the road. Dumb Emma skids her foot on the bike, causing Jax to crash. Jax and Chibs are able to convince the guys that they’ll kill Emma themselves, but the gangsters request proof -- preferably a thumb or breast. Emma is shipped out of town, and Jax plans on finding an unused appendage.
Jax meets with Nero and has a proposition for him. They’ll start a new “companion” company and split the profits 50/50. Nero says Jax and the club have to get out of his other businesses, and Jax says Nero has to get out of his relationship with Gemma if they want this partnership to work.

Speaking of Gemma, Tara and Clay's ex get into another argument that gets physical after Tara spots Wendy at the garage. Then, Gemma and Nero’s madam Carla get into a major fight in the garage. This leads to Tara and Carla getting into an even bloodier fight. At least that cast came in handy for something.
The wake for Opie ends the episode, with members of the club saying their final goodbyes to their friend.
