As star Liam McIntyre tells it, the first scene "is pivotal for the whole season because it's ballsy but it also shows the massive odds they're up against." It also introduces McIntyre in the title role, with the Australian actor introducing the clip amid some behind-the-scenes footage of the blue-screen work.

Spartacus is seeking vengeance for Sura and the first three minutes puts viewers right into the middle of the action, featuring bloodshed, many knife stabbings and primal screams.

Spartacus: Vengeance premieres Friday, Jan. 27 at 10 p.m.
