Super Bowl: Jimmy Kimmel, John Krasinski Unveil $1.5 Million Esurance Ad Winner (Video)
The car insurance brand got more mileage out of the post-big game ad on Wednesday night.
John Krasinski's Esurance ad -- which aired right after the conclusion of Sunday's lopsided Super Bowl -- was noted by media observers as a smart ad buy for encouraging Twitter users to tweet about the brand in hopes of winning $1.5 million.
The car insurance purveyor got more mileage out of the promotion with a tie-in on Jimmy Kimmel's Wednesday late-night show, where the host and The Office actor announced the winner of the prize.
The lucky winner? "His name is John, he lives in Northern California, but for his protection we can't say where," said Krasinski. "He's 29, he's recently married and he has a baby on the way."
Kimmel cameramen are then seen appearing at the house of the winner with what appears to be a stack of cash, with the happy couple appearing to be vaguely uncertain initially about whether the giveaway was real. The winner, John, noted that he only tweeted the brand's hashtag once on Sunday.
The hashtag, #EsuranceSave30, made the car insurance company the most tweeted-about brand of the Super Bowl, according to Nielsen, topping heavily promoted spots like Budweiser's "Puppy Love," T-Mobile's "No Contract," starring Tim Tebow, and Bud Light's "Up for Whatever."
