Syfy Sets Premiere Date for Elijah Wood, Eddie Izzard, Donald Sutherland Starrer 'Treasure Island'
The telefilm will offer a new take on Robert Louis Stevenson's famed adventure and bow in May as a special one-night only event.
Elijah Wood, Eddie Izzard and Donald Suthlerland are going on a treasure hunt for Syfy on May 5.
The cable network has the premiere date for TV movie Treasure Island, with Wood, Izzard and Sutherland starring in the adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's famed adventure tale.
Izzard, who earlier this week was tapped to play Grandpa Munster in NBC's adaptation of The Munsters, will star as Long John Silver. Wood, whose FX comedy series Wilfred returns this summer, will play Ben Gunn while The Hunger Games' Sutherland is on board as Flint.
The four-hour telepic will premiere in a special one-night only movie event on Saturday, May 5 at 7 p.m.
Harry Potter's Toby Regbo co-stars as young Jim Hawkins, who is drawn into the world of piracy when he discovers a treasure map and finds himself battling Silver for the treasure. Bridget Jones' Shirley Henderson and Love Actually's Nina Sosanya round out the cast.
Stewart Harcourt (Marple) penned the script for the telepic, which was directed by Merlin's Steve Barron. Robert Halmi Sr. will executive produce for RHI Entertainment, with Alan Moloney overseeing for Parallel Films, Mark Grenside for MNG Films, Melanie Stokes and Anne Brogan for Kindle Entertainment and Annie Harrison-Baxter for Sky. Laurie Borg (Sense and Sensibility) produces.
