"I’ve just been prepping. It’s been almost a full year since I’ve been on camera, so I’m itching, man. I’m overdue," Kitsch said in an interview with Adweek.

Sources previously told The Hollywood Reporter the actor was in talks to join the HBO series.

Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are starring in the series' second season, with Justin Lin (Fast & Furious, Scorpion) directing the first two of an eight-episode season. The season will center on two police officers and a career criminal who dig into a conspiracy following a murder.

Kitsch described season two as being set in present day California.

"I loved that first season of it so much," he said. "And it was so grounded. It could really happen. This is very similar, and I love that."

Season two is written by series creator Nic Pizzolatto. HBO declined to comment.
