TCA 2012: Oxygen's 'The Face' Adds Karolina Kurkova, Coco Rocha and Nigel Barker
The two supermodels will coach contestants, while Barker will host the series.
It takes one great face, or even two, to know another one.
To that end, supermodels Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha have signed on to Oxygen's new reality competition series The Face as contestant coaches, along with previously announced supermodel and businesswoman Naomi Campbell. Together, the trio will mold, nurture and transform the aspIring models as they compete for the opportunity to become "the face" for a well-known brand, earning a contract as the brand ambassador and spokesperson for that company, representing it in print, on-air and at brand-hosted events.
Kurkova, the Czech-born model, has become a fashion icon, featured on best-selling covers of fashion magazines all over the world. At age 16, she was the youngest model to grace the cover of American Vogue and was heralded by Anna Wintour as the "next supermodel." Kurkova has also been working in film and television, with a role in the live action film GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra and guest roles on NBC shows Chuck and 30 Rock.
Rocha is a model and a muse to designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Zac Posen and photographer Steven Meisel and she has been featured on the covers of high-fashion magazines for the last decade. Rocha has also been featured in several major brand campaigns for fashion labels Balenciaga, Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, H&M, Gap and Banana Republic.
For The Face competition, three teams of models, chosen from nationwide scouting sessions underway now, will run the gauntlet of photo shoots, runway shows and commercials for some of America's best known brands. Campbell, Kurkova and Rocha will act as mentors to the hopefuls and determine whether they have what it takes to have a career as a model and be the face of a brand.
In addition to Kurkova and Rocha, Oxygen also announced that photographer and former model Nigel Barker, best known to viewers as a photographer and judge on many seasons of America's Next Top Model, will host the series.
Andrew Frank executive produces the series, produced by Shine America. The Face is scheduled to air in 2013 on Oxygen.
