TCA: Starz, Encore Set Dates for Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Gillian Anderson Vehicles
The cablers set premiere dates for period drama "Magic City" and miniseries "The Crimson Petal and the White."
Starz and Encore have cleared space on their schedules announced premiered dates for a pair of new projects.
Starz has set Friday, April 6 at 10 p.m. for its period mob drama Magic City, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko and Danny Huston.
Set in 1959, Magic City revolves around Ike Evans (Morgan), the owner of the Miramar Playa Hotel, the hotspot of the era where mob bosses rub elbows with the Kennedys and the CIA. By day, the hotel is a high-end venue offering cha-cha lessons, but by night Miami's seedier residents clash the swanky venue to hear legendary singers, musicians and comics.
Mitch Glazer, who grew up in the late-1950s world of Miami Beach and frequented famed hotels including the Fountainbleau, created Magic City.
Meanwhile, sibling network Encore has set Tuesday, March 6 at 9 p.m. for the premiere of its four-part miniseries The Crimson Petal and The White.
The Victorian-era psychological thriller focuses on the exploits of prostitute Sugar (Romola Garai), with Chris O'Dowd starring as William Rackham. The X-Files' Gillian Anderson co-stars as brothel proprietor Mrs. Castaway, with Shirley Henderson and Richard E. Grant rounding out the cast. The series is an adaptation of Michel Faber's 2002 best-seller.
Parts 1 and 2 will air Tuesday, March 6 at 9 p.m. with Parts 3 and 4 set for Wednesday, March 7 starting at 9 p.m.
