Selena Gomez gets kudos for pulling off "the most daring look of the night;" some say the show "was not exactly hard to predict."

On Sunday, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez swept the 2011 Teen Choice Awards by winning six and five surf boards respectively. What did critics and pundits think of the annual young demo-focused show, which aired on Fox?

"This year’s Teen Choice Award winners were not exactly hard to predict," writes Jen Chaney in The Washington Post. "Taylor Swift won six awards, including the Ultimate Choice honor — sort of the Teen Choice Awards’ equivalent of a lifetime achievement award — for reflecting the feelings of so many adolescents via her country-pop songs about liking boys as well as breaking up with them."

Tierney Bricker at E! Online wasn't surprised by the winners overall either.

"The teens have spoken…and their tastes have pretty much stayed the same since last year. Shocking, we know," Bricker writes.

There were a few shockers: "Talk about an upset! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 beat The Twilight Saga: Eclipse for Choice SCi-Fi/Fantasy Movie, while Emma Watson triumphed over Kristen Stewart for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy actress. Even more of an upset? Watson and co-star Daniel Radcliffe took home the award for Choice Liplock. Sorry K-Stew and Robert Pattinson. There's always next year."

Hillary Moss gave Gomez a shout-out in her column on The Huffington Post.

"She likely donned the most daring look of the night and pulled it off with adolescent-level panache. Really," Moss wrote.

Blogger Gina Dalfonzo was not a fan of the show at all.

"Every year around this time, the Fox network takes it upon itself to remind us of the cultural poverty in which America’s teens are growing up," she wrote on Andrew Breitbart's Big Hollywood. "The annual Teen Choice Awards is a sort of showcase of the very worst in pop culture. When you take Hollywood’s desire to make scads of money off kids, and combine it with Hollywood’s desire to push the envelope as far as it will go, it’s not surprising that you end up with a cesspool."
