Tyler Posey is staying in business at MTV.

The Viacom-owned cable network has tapped the Teen Wolf favorite to join the rebooted third season of its Scream adaptation.

Season three of the now-anthology reboot revolves around Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler), a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.

Posey will play the series regular role of Shane, a high school dropout. The character is described as a drug dealer and party promoter who is always hustling in order to make money. But beneath that exterior, there's more to Shane than anyone realizes.

The casting keeps Posey in the MTV fold after he spent six seasons as a series regular on the Jeff Davis-created Teen Wolf. Sunday's landmark 100th episode also served as its series finale.

Posey joins a Scream cast that also includes Keke Palmer (Scream Queens), Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why), Jessica Sula (Recovery Road, Skins), Giullian Yao Gioiello (Julie's Greenroom), Tyga (aka Michael Ray Stevenson) and C.J. Wallace in season three of Scream.

Brett Matthews (The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural) serves as the franchise's third showrunner and executive produces alongside new arrivals including Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere and Yaneley Arty for Flavor Unit Entertainment. They join original exec producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein for Dimension TV, the late Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad.

In addition to the new cast, anthology format and story, production is being relocated to Atlanta. Scream's six-episode third season will air as a three-night event in March on MTV. A specific premiere date has not been announced.

This is one of two upcoming TV gigs for Posey, who is also set to recur on the upcoming fourth season of Jane the Virgin. The actor, whose films credits also include the movies Yoga Hosers and Scary Movie 5, is repped by Gersh, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Leslie B. Abell.

Sept. 25, 7:41 a.m. An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Tyler Hoechlin would be joining Scream. THR regrets the error.
