Viacom is getting into business with Tia Mowry-Hardrict.
Nickelodeon has given a series order to scripted comedy Instant Mom starring Mowry-Hardrict, as part of Nick Jr.'s "NickMom" primetime programming block, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The half-hour multicamera series, the first original scripted effort to join the block, will premiere later this year under the NickMom umbrella and will repeat on Nick at Nite.
Instant Mom (working title) follows young party girl Stephanie (Mowry-Hardrict) who trades in cosmos for carpools when she marries an older man, Charlie (Michael Boatman), who has three kids. Stephanie slowly grows into her role as a full-time stepmom while struggling to maintain a sense of her fun-loving, slightly irresponsible life. Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha) co-stars as Stephanie's mother, Maggie, while Sydney Park, Tylen Williams and Damarr Calhoun play the three kids.
Warren Bell (Victorious, According to Jim) and Jessica Butler (In Plain Sight) co-created the series, which is executive produced by Aaron Kaplan (The Neighbors, Wendell & Vinnie) and Howard Gould (The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Cybil).
“Instant Mom is the perfect addition to our NickMom nighttime comedy block designed to let moms unwind from the day and laugh at the often hilarious experiences of parenthood,” said Bronwen O’Keefe, senior vp, NickMom. “This show has a fantastic cast and at the center is Tia bringing all her warmth and talent to this funny and relatable character.”
Mowry-Hardrict and her twin sister, Tamera, became stars when they co-starred on the popular comedy series Sister, Sister. Mowry-Hardrict starred on The Game from 2006-12 and can be seen with her sister on the reality series Tia & Tamera.
NickMom is a programming block for moms that airs on the Nick Jr. network. The block includes talk shows, stand-up and sketch comedy and docu-series.
