Nickelodeon Renews Tia Mowry's 'Instant Mom'
UPDATED: The multicamera comedy will add six more episodes to its freshman run.
Nickelodeon has renewed Tia Mowry-Hardrict's Instant Mom for a second season.
The cable network has also given an additional six-episode order for the multicamera comedy series' freshman season, bringing the total episode number to 26.
Instant Mom follows young party girl Stephanie (Mowry-Hardrict) who trades in cosmos for carpools when she marries an older man, Charlie (Michael Boatman), who has three kids. Stephanie slowly grows into her role as a full-time stepmom while struggling to maintain a vestige of her fun-loving, slightly irresponsible life. Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha) co-stars as Stephanie's mother, Maggie, while Sydney Park, Tylen Williams and Damarr Calhoun play the three kids.
Instant Mom has posted year-over-year gains on Nick at Nite among adults 18-49 with a 0.3 rating (336,000) and women 18-49 with a 0.43 rating (237,000). The series has averaged 1.2 million viewers per episode since its Sept. 29 launch.
"In just a couple months since its debut, Instant Mom has resonated remarkably well with the Nick at Nite and NickMom audiences," said Russell Hicks, president of content development and production at Nickelodeon. "We're thrilled to witness its early success alongside See Dad Run and families enthusiastic about Tia and an undeniably charismatic cast."
Warren Bell (Victorious, According to Jim) and Jessica Butler (In Plain Sight) co-created the series, which is executive produced by Aaron Kaplan (The Neighbors, Wendell & Vinnie) and Howard Gould (The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Cybil).
Instant Mom, currently in its first season, airs on NickMom and Nick at Nite. NickMom is a programming block for moms that airs on the Nick Jr. network. The block includes talk shows, stand-up and sketch comedy and docuseries. Nick at Nite is a programming block that includes comedies such as Friends, See Dad Run and My Wife & Kids.
