TLC Feature to Launch VH1 Biopic Series
"What's Love Got To Do With It" scribe Kate Lanier will pen the script for the project.
VH1 is getting crazy, sexy, cool.
The network will launch a series of music-themed biopics with 1990s trio TLC the first to get the treatment.
What's Love Got To Do With Itscribe Kate Lanier will pen the project, which will explore the R&B/hip-hop pop trio comprised of Chilli, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and their rise to fame with 1991's "Ooooooohhh… On The TLC Tip" and their follow-up success with 1994's "CrazySexyCool," which sold more than 22 albums worldwide and pushed them to become the most successful female group in history.

Chilli and Watkins have both signed on to serve as consultants and executive producers for the telefilm, which will also chronicle the trio's sadder moments, including Lopes' burning down the home of her then-boyfriend, the group's financial woes as well as Lopes' untimely death in 2002.
The bio series comes as the music-themed cabler has seen ratings success with its original movie Single Ladies and its subsequent scripted series.
The network’s first hourlong scripted series averaged 2.8 million total viewers on Mondays following Basketball Wives and was renewed for a second season in July.
STORY: TLC's T-Boz Files for Bankruptcy -- Again
“With the tremendous success of our scripted series Single Ladies, we now know that viewers will come to VH1 for quality scripted projects. We’re eager to expand on that success with this biopic franchise that will allow us to explore our music, pop culture, and authentic storytelling strengths in yet another format,” said Jeff Olde, exec vp original programming and production at VH1. “We’re honored to collaborate with Chilli, Tionne and Bill Diggins in sharing their own personal story and TLC’s record-breaking legacy with VH1 viewers.”
Bill Diggins and Maggie Malina will executive produce alongside TLC's Chilli and Watkins, with Olde and Jill Holmes overseeing for VH1.
