'True Blood': Kristin Bauer van Straten Teases Pam's Struggle With Change in Season 6 (Video)
"Pam wants things more status quo in that she wants to be dressed beautifully every day, and go to Fangtasia," the actress tell THR about her character on the HBO drama.
Kristin Bauer van Straten's character on True Blood, Pam Swynford De Beaufort, won't have an easy time in season six.
"She's like me in that way -- we don't like change," van Straten tells The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the sixth season premiere.
Unfortunately for Pam, season six will bring about all sorts of changes for the residents of Bon Temps. Not only has Bill (Stephen Moyer) been reborn as some (maybe evil) reincarnation of the very first vampire, but the humans are planning on going to war with their blood-drinking enemies.
The season begins with Pam, Tara (Rutina Wesley), Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), Jason (Ryan Kwanten) and Nora (Lucy Griffiths) trying to escape the Vampire Authority complex, where Bill had just turned into a new version of himself.
"It proves to be a bit of a challenge to get out of there, and then, not just that, but vampires have now openly, on video, been seen massacring people," van Straten tells THR. "The humans are fighting back."
On top of all that, Pam is in a new relationship -- with her progeny, Tara. (They shared a passionate kiss in the season-five finale.) This tryst is just the latest in a long line of complicated relationships, including Pam's own with her maker, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard).
"There's a lot of joking on the sets because I call Alex 'Daddy,' and Anna [Paquin] said, 'That's really creepy because you guys had sex,' " says van Straten. "But we're like, 'Yeah, that was 100 years ago -- that was so long ago.' These relationships are very complex."
All of these changes will challenge Pam in a completely new way, as she deals with separation from Eric and the increasing tensions between the humans and vampires, which leads to the closing of all vampire-run businesses, including her beloved club, Fangtasia.
"Pam wants things more status quo in that she wants to be dressed beautifully every day, and go to Fangtasia," she says.
Being dressed beautifully has always been one of Pam's signatures, along with her fiery attitude and quick one-liners. Van Straten reveals that Pam's style is one thing that won't change season.
"There's one outfit that's terribly exceptional this year," she says. "Every year, they come up with something that we didn't think was possible and would work. We have that again this year."
True Blood's sixth season premieres on Sunday, June 16, at 9 p.m. on HBO.
