TV Land Orders Pilots From Ben Silverman, Scott Stuber
The cast-contingent projects include an Israeli adaptation and a family comedy from "3rd Rock From the Sun" producers.
As TV Land gears up for its biggest originals push yet, the newly rebranded Viacom-owned network has ordered two cast-contingent pilots: I’m Not Dead Yet and Brothers-in-Law.
Dead, an adaptation from the DBS produced Israeli format Zanzuri, marks the network’s first single-camera comedy. The project, from Ben Silverman’s Electus, centers on a man who finds out that he has a rare heart condition that could cause him to die at any moment, so he opts to finally start speaking his mind and live life to the fullest. Dead is written by Jon Sherman (Frasier) with Electus’ Jimmy Fox co-executive producing alongside Silverman.
Brothers revolves around the family dynamic between a husband and the eccentric fiancé of his wife’s twin sister. Although the men have nothing in common, the sisters constantly force them to bond. The comedy counts Scott Stuber (Whitney) as an executive producer. Brothers is being written, executive produced and showrun by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (3rd Rock From the Sun). Quan Phang (Whitney) will join the pair as a producer.
“With these pilot orders, TV Land continues down a path to build its own library of original sitcoms that will be paired up with some of the best sitcoms ever made,” said TV Land president Larry W. Jones, referencing a schedule that includes projects new (Hot in Cleveland, Retired at 35) and old (The Dick Van Dyke Show, Bonanza).
