TV Pilots 2017: The Complete Guide

Following another prolonged development season, the broadcast networks are gearing up for a busy pilot season as they compete with not only one another, but also with basic and premium cable as well as streaming services including Netflix, Amazon and Hulu — all of which are making major scripted pushes.

Like last year, the networks continue to look to reboots, family fare and procedurals to help cut through the increasing clutter. Also hot this development season were sports-themed projects as well as contemporary takes on old literary tales.

Here's a look at the pilots in contention for the 2017-18 television season, as ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and The CW sift through hundreds of scripts and move forward in a bid to find the next breakout comedies and dramas. Bookmark as well as this page as The Hollywood Reporter will update this guide throughout the season with the latest pilot orders, castings and series pickups. 

ABC Drama

The Crossing
Logline: Refugees from a war-torn country start showing up to seek asylum in an American town. Only the country these people are from is America and the war they are fleeing is 250 years in the future. The local sheriff with a past, a federal agent and a mother in search of her missing refugee daughter drive this allegory with a surprising conspiracy at the center.

But when a catastrophe occurs ripped from the pages of the missing doomsday book, the team is brought back years later to prevent the disasters of their own making.

The Good Doctor
Logline: Based on a South Korean format, the drama centers on a young surgeon with Savant syndrome who is recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. The question will arise: Can a person who doesn't have the ability to relate to people actually save their lives?

Logline: Revolves around Detective Sonya De La Reina, who is forced to confront her past when a case compels her to reconnect with her estranged family — the most powerful criminal outfit in Miami. Life imitates art: Everything's a mystery, everyone has a secret and no one can be trusted.
