TV Ratings: 'Cold Justice,' TNT's Latest Unscripted Launch, Bucks Soft Trend
The cable network sees a strong premiere for the Wolf Films and Magical Elves effort, besting the year's previous reality launches.
The Cold Justice premiere proved to be reasonably warm for TNT.
The cable network, which has been building its unscripted slate for the last two years, saw its best reality premiere yet with the true crime drama. The Tuesday opener brought in 2.9 million viewers, making it one of cable's top 10 unscripted series launches of 2013. In the reality sphere, the closest the network has gotten to success thus far is with similar effort Boston's Finest. By comparison, Boston's Finest earned a sophomore renewal averaging 1.3 million viewers with seven days of DVR factored in.
Cold Justice comes to TNT with a strong pedigree in both scripted and unscripted players. It is produced for the Turner network by Dick Wolf's Wolf Films (Law & Order) and Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz's Magical Elves (Top Chef).
Tuesday's premiere averaged 942,000 viewers in the network's advertiser-friendly adults 25-54 demographic.
Something of a real-life twist on TNT's time-tested procedural dramas, Cold Justice follows Kelly Siegler and Yolanda McClary -- two women who have dedicated their lives to putting killers behind bars for often long-unsolved crimes.
